I can put your animations on an actual VHS

Posted by Foxmosis - May 23rd, 2022

Hey! So it seems a lot of people are into that VHS look for their work. Most people have been doing this with a filter I assume but if you want I can take your animation and slap it onto an actual VHS! Then I would record that VHS with my Elgato Game Capture and hand you a digital version you can upload. If your curious to what that looks like here is a small comparison video I made.

Filters get the trick done but I think there's a charm to having something that was made in 2022 being put onto something made in 1989. Anyways! I'm bored and feel like lending that hand so if you're into this just shoot me a DM or leave a comment. Here's a few things to keep in mind though:

  • It should be at 24FPS or else you'll lose frames or end up with some weird interlacing. In my comparison video it was animated at 24FPS but recorded at 30FPS, but I'm smarter now! Yours shouldn't have an interlacing.

  • When you put something on the VHS the colors get darker. Again you can look at my comparison video to gauge how much darker they'll get.

  • I'm in the process of moving so I wouldn't be getting around to doing this until mid-to-late June.

Later!

Maybe I should have posted this to the forums but I'm keeping it a little low-key for now.

cool

jeez, you won't be doing that for too long, i would like to see my old looking cartoon looking even older, but i'm poor can't afford that, what a pity, i'm sorry

Oh I'm doing this for free, haha. I'm working out some kinks to optimize this process and figured I might as well help out some animators out while doing that.

@Foxmosis wow for free? could you do that with some of animations? 1 or 2 maybe? What are the requirements?

Sure thing, you can shoot me a DM with the animations! As long as they're in standard definition and animated at 24FPS that's all that's important. I can also make it work if they're in widescreen and animated at a different frame rate but the quality will be slightly less.

@Foxmosis my cartoon is designed to look like an old cartoon, so it's not widescreen, it's on 30fps, no problem at losing quality at all, it's on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03gmVevrqtc

Lit! It'll be a bit before I get this done but I'll shoot you a message later! Expect sometime later in June!

@Foxmosis woow, man, you're awesome, take your time, im so excited to see the result, thanks!!!
